How to Choose The Right Shutters For Your Home

A helpful guide on choosing the right shutters for your home.

your window type

Firstly, you need to determine what type of window you have. Is it a standard square/rectangle shape, or is it an extra large window or bi-fold doors? Your window may even be shaped as an oval or even triangular. The shape of your window will play a key factor in which shutters will be most suited to your windows. Only certain types of materials such as hardwood shutters can be shaped exactly to your window.

shutter Tilt options

You may have noticed whilst researching shutters that most shutters have a titling rod which is usually set in the middle of each shutter. This gives easy access for tilting your shutter louvres up and down for allowing various levels of light to come through.

However, having a hidden tilt rod means you rotate the louvres by hand to open and close them. A hidden tilt rod is usually discretely set on the back of a shutter panel. For most people it is a simple personal preference whether to have your tilt rod visible or hidden. However, shutters are easier to clean with having a hidden tilt.

Tier-on-tier shutters

Tier-on-tier shutters are particularly great for bay windows and high set windows. Tier-on-tier shutters allow the option to open just the top of the window or just the bottom of the window depending on your preference. They are also very modern and stylish, adding the extra wow factor to your windows. All of our shutter ranges are available with tier-on tier options.

Colour options

Some shutter materials allow the option to colour match your shutters. There are many choices of colours to choose from with hardwood shutters in particular. You may want a darker look for your shutters, or perhaps an off white or grey colour option. Our Wenlock shutters have 23 colours and colour matching options.

Smart motorised shutters

Have you thought about choosing smart shutters? Smart motorised shutters are great option for many reasons, particularly if you have hard to reach windows. Our Wenlock shutters are the only type available with our SmartShade remote controlled, powered tilting option.
